Vacuum Brewing Coffee Pot

Vacuum Brewing Coffee PotComing in a close second to Starbucks setting up a fully staffed coffee kiosk in the apartment next door, on my list of all time favorite beverage related fantasies, would be getting my paws on this Vacuum Brewing Coffee Pot.

The top sphere holds the coffee grounds and filter, and the bottom holds the water. The pot is placed over medium heat and as the water boils it rises up (didn’t we learn about that in chemistry?), it then blends with the coffee grounds. After the coffee brews for 3-4 minutes remove it from the stove. Once the pot is removed from the stove a vacuum is created forcing the coffee to trickle back down through the filter for 5 (small) cups of perfect coffee.

Cooks’ Illustrated has a program on PBS, America’s Test Kitchen, and reviewed coffee makers. Their “Ultimate Sticky Buns” episode, circa April (as I record them on my ReplayTV, I don’t have exact dates) rated the vacuum brewing systems the best.
