Repliee Q1 Japanese RobotThe BBC is reporting that Japanese scientists have developed a startlingly lifelike female robot called the Repliee Q1.

She has flexible silicone for skin rather than hard plastic, and a number of sensors and motors to allow her to turn and react in a human-like manner. She can flutter her eyelids and move her hands like a human. She even appears to breathe.

Why? One of two reasons:

1. They really are interested in exploring and developing artificial intelligence.

2. Due to the ‘westernization’ of their society and resulting independence of women, coupled with disappointing results after the arrival and extensive testing of their RealDoll, Japanese men want a woman who’s a little more ‘interactive.’
