Eco-car, a Barcelona based company that’s part of the Elektron Group has got a full line-up of some truly cool vehicles. Whether it’s a bicycle, moped, buggie, mini bus or van, this company has a model for you that is not only electric, but all of them can be recharged using solar power.
Unfortunately, the Eco-car website is in spanish, so we’ll rely on this post from Treehugger.com for some of the details…
These modes of transport are almost silent therefore reducing noise pollution as well as exhaust pollution. The price per kilometre is 6 times less than that of petrol or diesel. When you are standing at traffic lights these vehicles don’t consume any energy, so no need to argue about whether its more or less efficient to turn the engine off and on at traffic lights. And did I mention that they can be recharged by solar power? Oh yes, yes I did! To be honest these little get-abouts aren’t really designed for the open road, but they do make it up to 50 Km per hour which is perfectly respectable for getting around town.
Very cool, except of course if you live in a place like Seattle, where something like this would be useless for six months out of the year.

1Didn’t radio talk show host, Glenn Beck (www.glennbeck.com) make a skit about solar and eco cars. He called it the “Solar Roller” and the skit said that the Solar Roller can only go 35 miles an hour, do not attempt to go up hills in the Solar Roller. Do not bring along a woman in the Solar Roller. You will not have relations with a woman if you own the Solar Roller. Do not drive the Solar Roller in the shade. Do not place the Solar Roller in direct sunlight. Do not get into a car wreck with the Solar Roller. When you are done with the Solar Roller, you can compact it into a small aluminum ball.
It was something like that. I’m sure you can find it on Google, it was pretty funny.

2I wrote a blog post about something a little more feasible for the average American. It is about the electrocharger. It is an aftermarket modification for you car to make it a hybrid gas-electric. The link is on the post on my blog.
