The iBook Riot of ‘05

August 16, 2005 | In: Breaking News, General, Laptops Notebooks

The iBook Riot of You know, the level of dignity that human beings are capable of never ceases to amaze me. This morning, the Henrico County school system in Richmond, Virginia were going to sell 1,000 4-year old Apple iBooks. These used iBooks, which retail new for between $1000 and $1,300 USD, were going to go for $50 each.

Well, you combine $50 iBooks with record heat and apparently that’s a recipe for a riot. We had a little girl’s stroller crushed in the stampede, an elderly man was thrown to the pavement, and someone in a car tried to drive his way through the crowd. To top it off, one woman went so far to wet herself rather than give up her place in line.

No comment from police yet on the number of or extent of injuries, though witnesses report mostly scrapes and bruises.

More details can be had from this CNN story.
