The Pepper PadNow here’s a device with an identity crisis. Not quite as compact as a PDA, yet much easier to handle than a laptop, the Pepper Pad, made by the Pepper Computer company is an interesting set-up.

This 2.3lb unit runs a 624 MHz Intel XScale processor with 256MB of SDRAM and a 20GB ATA hard drive. The display is an 8.4″ 800×600 SVGA TFT LCD with resistive touch screen.

Under the hood, it runs on MontaVista CEE 3.1 Linux with a full compliment of email, browsing, IM and multimedia software. Wirelessly, it groks WiFi, Bluetooth and IR. In addition to the touch screen display, input is handled via a full back lit QWERTY keypad, 4-way game pad and scroll wheel.
