Denon’s Smart-Life S-101

Check out this sweet kit coming from Denon in the UK next month. The Denon Smart-Life S-101 is a home theater system with a little more under the hood. Dolby, DTS, THX, 2.1, 5.1, Hi-Fi, Wi-Fi, MP3 and DVD…whether you’re playing music or watching films, this system will provide killer sound quality in a simple, straight-forward package.

The S-101 consists of a full featured progressive scan DVD player, a pair of flat wireless speakers and a chest-thumping 100W woofer. Not content to leave it at just that, Denon kicks it up a notch by making the S-101 the ultimate iPod accessory. Check out this description from T3…

First off, it connects with every member of the iPod family except for the shuffle via the iPod’s dock connector, bypassing the headphone socket in order to kick out the finest quality sound. Once hooked up, you can completely control your iPod using the Denon remote hanset. That’s only the half of it. See, the S-101 displays a virtual iPod on your telly that displays all your track listings and even the iPod controls. Then there’s the fact that you can use it to view snaps that you’ve got stored on it. Oh, and it charges the bleedin’ thing too.

What else can it do you ask? How about boasting the new Dolby Headphone technology that simulates the experience of surround sound inside a simple pair of stereo headphones. The DVD player also supports MP3 and WMA playback from CD-R discs.

Unfortunately, this kind of quality will come with a high quality price tag of £850 when it lands in the UK in September. Nothing in regards to a if and when for a release over here in North America, though there is word of a second system in development, the S-301, that will feature HDMI, SACD, DVD-A and USB inputs to come in the near future.

UPDATE – Doh! Thanks to reader Kazoo for pointing out that I was incorrect in stating that the speakers on this sweet little unit were wireless. They are in fact wired. My bad!
