How To – Make a Jet Powered Beer Cooler

Refrigerators? We don’t need no stinking refrigerators. Not when we can build our very own Jet Powered Beer Cooler!
Simon Jansen, a bloke from Auckland, New Zealand was sitting in his shed one day when he realized that he had a problem. How can one cool one’s beer in an effective way? Here’s part of Simon’s thought process…
I knew from some long forgotten physics lecture that when a liquid expands into a gas it will draw heat from its surroundings. And I happened to have a source of a suitable liquid right in my shed in the form of a LPG cylinder (liquid petroleum gas). Obviously it would not do to evaporate vast quantities of a flammable gas into the closed confines of my garage. That would probably be dangerous. What I needed was a way to remove the dangerous gas. The solution was obvious. The gas is flammable so why not burn it. Burning the gas with a normal burner would not use up the gas fast enough to give me any serious cooling. What I needed was a way to use up a lot of fuel very, very quickly.
What I needed was a jet engine!
The rest is as they say is geek history. Cool your beer from 11 C degrees down to 2 C in just 5 minutes, all while producing 500 C of exhaust temperature and noise levels in excess of 125 dBA. Now that’ll impress the wife/girlfriend AND the neighbors.
Simon has chronicled the entire process at his web page here. Even if you’re not interested in building your very own Jet Powered Beer Cooler, the page is still worth a visit as Simon’s story is quite entertaining.

Haha, thats quite funny. I bet there are several frat boys out there trying to construct this as we speak. Its not a bad idea, really… :p
You should go to associatedcontent.com. They have some neat articles to read and there is a whole section on technology. Cheers!!
