Samsung HT-PR16 5.1 Sound Projector

IFA 2005, the world’s largest consumer electronics trade show doesn’t open in Berlin until tomorrow but that hasn’t stopped some of the exhibitors from jumping the gun on product announcements. One that caught my eye right away is this goodie from Samsung. The HT-PR16 is being billed as a low-cost home entertainment system with a 5.1 sound projector.
If you’ve been following my posts here, you’ll know I’ve been drooling over Yahama’s Sound Projector systems that mimic 5.1 sound without all the speakers. The only problem being the cost of them. Well, Samsung’s HT-PR16 consists of a DVD player with DivX support, a 5.1 amplifier and a sound projector for simulated surround sound and the whole package is apparently going to go for about $250.
I know, it’s ugly looking compared to Yamaha’s offerings and probably won’t perform as well as Yahama’s but with a price tag like that, I now have a much better chance of having 5.1 sound for my movie viewing pleasure.
