iPod nano Updates

iPod nano BagWell, Apple’s iPod nano has been out in the open for a couple of days now and of course, numerous geeks and nerds have already dissected and/or figured out how to hack it. Here are some of the highlights…

Phillip Torrone of the Makezine blog has a thorough tutorial up on how-to mod the nano. He shows a few things like changing the text strings, modding the font even changing the graphics – kind of. In his own words…

Like everything else in the household here, the new iPod nano was quickly hacked and modded to see what was possible. The value of a gadget for us here is more than just features, style and function– it needs to be malleable to bends, tweaks and personalization. While the iPod nano isn’t as hackable as older iPods (run linux, record high quality, etc…) there are some things you can do, here are just a few to get started.

Next up, Jacqui Cheng and Clint Ecker have an indepth review up at ArsTechnica. Part of the review to catch is their rather elaborate ’stress tests’. Apparently, the little guy was still working even after being run over by a car twice! They were finally able to break it with a 40ft drop onto concrete, and then celebrated by ripping it open and giving us all a peek at what’s inside.

Gizmodo has got a larger update here with a listing of the better reviews, etc and a link to a list of iPod accessories that are known to work with the nano at Playlist.
