Microsoft Vista to Boot in 2-3 Seconds

Apparently, the marketing department at Microsoft ate those funny brownies at the last company party and then starting writing up the copy for the features of the next version of Windows, dubbed Vista, due for release next year.
If you go to this Microsoft web page for Vista here, you’ll see a paragraph about halfway down entitled, Fast On and Off, that states, and I quote…
A Windows Vista computer starts and shuts down as quickly and reliably as a television, typically within 2 to 3 seconds. Windows Vista processes login scripts and startup programs and services in the background so you can start working right away.
Hey, over-paid marketing person! It’s take 3 seconds just to load the BIOS on a computer. You know, when you first turn it on, and it makes that funny beep sound. That’s the BIOS loading, which it has to do before the OS can even start to load.
Ladies and Gentlemen, while Microsoft is a software company, they did not get to where they are today because they’re particularly good software company. They got there because of marketing, and I really dislike it when they pull crap like this! Your computer will not boot up in 2-3 seconds if you switch to Windows Vista. Trust me.
Microsoft is going to be making lots of claims of what Vista can do over the next year (or longer if their track record for blowing release dates continues). Remember, it’s just marketing.
OK, I feel better now…ranting done. We’ll now return you to our normal Gadget programming.
