It’s not a scoop unless it’s a scoop

January 7, 2006 | In: General

Since Gadgetizer isn’t one of the ultra-heavyweight gadget blogs, yet, we don’t get a lot of email tips or scoops and spy photos of new stuff sent over. But let me tell you about what I consider a “scoop.”

To me, if you give a gadget site editor a “scoop,” that means you don’t send it to any other editors, or you at least offer a 2+ hour head start before you broadcast your announcement to other sites.

It’s not really a big deal tho, all I’m saying is the wording in your announcement email may need to be refined a little, that’s all. Instead of “scoop” it’s an announcement, or tip, excluding the word “scoop” from the email. No problem then, no problem at all. Right?

You see, I subscribe to 220+ other gadget sites live feeds. I know within 15 minutes what’s written about on all those sites and it’s a simple matter of searching those feeds to find out if I’ve been sent an exclusive (scoop) or if it’s a product announcement that’s been sent to others.

No problem. No problem at all.

Are you giving someone a hint?? :-)
Also 220 feeds is nuts! You need less feeds and more posting.

Hi Duncan, thanks for dropping by.

Yeah, it’s definitely a hint.

220 tech feeds IS nuts, and I realized that right after posting this. So I went and got rid of about 30 that were not too hot. I’d like to get it down to about 100, but some of the smaller blogs are the best for finding unusual stuff.

Oh, and posting will be picking up to between 6-10 a day except for Sunday.
