Spam Situation
January 29, 2006 | In: General
If anyone out there has recieved email from any email address @gadgetizer.com, please be informed that it was not sent voluntarily by me, Paul Short or this site and server.
We’ve had a brief security breach with the server and some spammer found their way in. You can rest assured that this problem is being dealt with right now and our server logs have been forwarded to the proper authorities, who have already started tracking down the hackers and will take legal action.
My sincere personal apologies to anyone who has been affected by this.
Update: Faked headers. Can you believe it?
Each email that passes through a server has a unique ID attached, and none of the emails “supposedly” sent from the server Gadgetizer resides on had ID’s matching anything in our server logs. So it’s all very simple – the headers attached to an email can be forged so that, to the untrained eye, they appear to be sent from here. They weren’t.
So you can all stop calling me a spammer now.
Paul Short

Yea, tell me about it. A couple of years ago metzener dot com was “attacked” this way. I was receiving hundreds of bounce messages a day telling me a message I sent to so and so was a bad address. It’s pretty much stopped now, but boy was that a mess.
