Ubuntu Bug – root password for everyone
March 14, 2006 | In: Breaking News, Linux Gadgets, Open Source

Beware Ubuntu users, the 5.10 Breezy Badger version of the Linux OS has a very bad bug. This bug lets anyone have access to the root password that a user has chosen.
Why did this happen? It seems that the installer file let the passwords remain in the log files, and these are readable by any local-user. Don’t panic! There is already a fix for this problem.
The person that discovered this issue is a user at the Ubuntu forums, and his username is Teotihuacan. Check this thread where he reported the bug and warned the rest of the users.
