One or two days ago there were 593465437 users trying to access the Google Blog – http://googleblog.blogspot.com – but the site was offline, no content, no site, nothing. Some people started going crazy and couldn’t imagine what their lives would be without the Google Blog.
After a while, there was life at googleblog.blogspot.com but the owners weren’t associated with google. Someone tried to register googleblog at Blogger and the result was successful, so they decided to have some fun and make a post or two – see screenshot @ flickr.
The situation is back to normal and google now has access to their blog, so what happened? The answer is below, or in this post.
We’ve determined the cause of tonight’s outage. The blog was mistakenly deleted by us (d’oh!) which allowed the blog address to be temporarily claimed by another user. This was not a hack, and nobody guessed our password. Our bad.
I’m thinking if it’s easy or hard to delete a blogger account. Let’s see, the first step would be clicking the “Delete Blog” button, and the second step would be to confirm the action. Hmm… accidents like this are funny.
