TDK Blu-ray Discs start shipping
April 12, 2006 | In: General, Home Entertainment, Storage Devices

A few days ago TDK made it world-wide-known that the Blu-Ray Discs will start the shipping process. In case you didn’t know, Blu-Ray is “a next-generation optical disc format meant for storage of high-definition video and high-density data” – read more about Blue-ray at wikipedia
By high-density data, it means that 1 disc can hold at least 25GB of information, but there are bigger discs which can hold 50GB. There are normal discs that are only recordable, and then there are the re-writable ones.
Prices… you’d expect something like this to be very expensive, but as a matter a fact, it isn’t:
- Retail price for a normal 25GB disc is $20, and a re-writable will go for $25
- The 50GB disc will cost $48 and a re-writable will be close $60
PS – There isn’t a player in the market that can read Blu-ray discs, yet!
