Guard ID Vault – protect your passwords?

Guard ID Vault

The Guard ID Vault claims to be a secure (?) way of storing all your username/passwords and other types of personal information (bank accounts, etc) on a simple USB smart card that requests a PIN before you can access all the info.

I wouldn’t call it very secure if knowing the PIN (and having the device) is the only barrier to get a hold of all the private and valuable information. There are programs that can achieve the same effect so I don’t understand what is so special about the Guard ID Vault, maybe I’m missing something…

ID Vault is the only security product available directly to consumers that uses smart card technology.

Oh really?

hi
i dont agree that there are many programs that perform the same operation

while any pin number that a security program stores is written somewhere on your hard drive and can be easily cracked,
an external device can store the pin information seperately and not allow it to be “read” or cracked

the way to crack such a device would need more than a pc and software, you might need a special device such as a device to crack or create fake credit cards, which are not so common
