For about 2 years now, scientists have been able to ‘beam’ a single atom from one location to another, a fraction of a milimeter away. But Yahoo News is reporting that a group of Danish scientists have successfully transmitted thousands of billions of atoms a distance of almost half a meter (about 18 inches).

“Our method allows teleportation to be taken over longer distances because it involves light as the carrier of entanglement.”
