On the previous post related to Nigerian 419 Scammers the main topic was the police busting them on the act, but this post is funnier and related to other people “scaming” the scammers.
The image you can see is the result of the work of an Australian vigilantes group (more specifically, of a female named Taryn) that was able to trick the scammer in question, this is not the first time they do this and probably won’t be the last.
My favourite bait would be my butterfly guy – I told him that I was a nun from the Church Of The Sacred Butterfly, and I got him to facepaint butterflies on his face.
The scammer paid an artist to have his face painted, and he paid a photographer to take the photos.
The reason for the “scambaiters” group to act against the scammers is simple and easy to understand:
Motivation for scambaiting comes from a story she read about a scam victim who was murdered in South Africa in December 2004.
The best part of the story is that Taryn developed a tool to help her on the scambaiting process, it is all automated right now and the computer does all the work. Of course the main idea is to keep the scammers busy, but at the same time make them spend money of their own somehow – to make phone calls to the scambaiters (or paint butterflies).
