1and1 Email Service – Worth The Hassle?

1&1
The Reg is reporting on some problems with the 1&1 Email service, this is a popular Web Hosting company we are talking about.

It looks like the critical situation – not being able to send/receive emails, either using POP3 and SMTP or the webmail interface – started last week and the company even sent a statement to the Reg people saying that the problem was fixed and asked for apologies for any problems caused.

But it didn’t last long for problems to start popping up again, today the 1&1 email customers can’t use the service they are paying for.

The last email I received properly was 11:11 this morning, and I just get a send & receive error in Outlook when I try. Their webmail interface just gives a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error too!

In these kind of situations it is always good for the companies to offer some support, even if it is only a person answering the phone calls and stating that there is indeed a problem, but with 1&1 this isn’t possible as the Reg confirms:

Our own call was sent to hold music for several minutes and then went dead. A recorded message informs callers the firm is working on a technical fault and is hoping to have normal service resumed “as soon as possible”.

I’ll be waiting for more apologies from 1&1 when the email service comes back to life.
