Jail

I could see this blogger-getting-jail-time thing happening, it is not the first time I talk about it. Anyhow, this time it happened on Kazakhstan (hurray for Borat) and the target was a journalist that published 2 entries on his blog with comments about the President of Kazakhstan being guilty for the death of an opposition leader.

The prosecutors wanted a 3-year jail time for the blogger, but the “judge” decided that a 2-year suspended sentence suits the case better, this means that the poor guy that doesn’t have freedom of speech won’t be getting any jail time at all.

So, on one side we have a President (Nursultan Nazarbayev) running the country for the last 17 years with power and influence on the media, and on the other side there is a journalist (Kazis Toguzbayev) that is probably telling the truth. Take your own conclusion of this case, in the meanwhile try searching for freedom of speech – it is not in my pocket.
