Google Competition - Build Your Campus In 3D

It is pretty interesting to see how Google can come up with an interesting idea that helps them develop one of their great products, and at the same time helps the people participating in the competition.

The idea is to create your University Campus in 3D using the Google Sketchup software, and afterwards implement it on Google Earth by using the geo-reference feature. In case you didn’t know, there are actually 3D buildings, museums (and other stuff) in Google Earth that are replicas of the real thing.

In this 3D competition, the awards are given to the first 5 (or 7) teams and include a 3 day trip to Google’s Mountain View headquarters – all free including air fare, hotel, food, etc.

So basically, what Google is doing is offering “good stuff” in turn of 3D Universities that will work in coordination with Google Earth, only (US and Canadian) students can participate so they know the final result is probably going to be very good.
