Google Teaches How To Recycle Hardware

New life for network equipment

In an effort to give internet access to the worldwide population and having in mind the less developed countries, Google found a way of helping by donating decommissioned networking hardware – read routers, switches, or any other kind of network thingy – to a non-profit organization called Network Startup Resource Center.

Thus far, we’ve heard that some of our retired switches have been sent to universities across Africa and in Guyana and Thailand. More will be shipping out in the coming months to universities and research institutes in, among others, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Afghanistan and Vietnam.

I consider it a very good idea, taking in consideration that some countries have “problems” getting new computer material, why not give yours for free if you are not using it anymore?
