Samsung has decided to take their products one step further and add some kind of innovation, so instead of using normal DVI and VGA connectors with monitors, they will start using USB connectors. The monitor that will start the possible new trend is codenamed SyncMaster 940UX and will have a display measuring 19-inches. It will become available to the general public later on May this year, and while at first it will only be compatible with Windows XP because of the drivers, later on there will be drivers for the Vista as well.

Advantages of using USB cables/connectors instead of DVI or VGA?

  • Easier to use and connect cables
  • Connect more than one monitor at the same time easily
  • USB being more portable and compact when comparing to DVI or VGA connectors

Disadvantages?

  • Like everyone is asking, where is the processing taking place?
  • Will graphic drives have any real use?

I guess we will have to wait until CeBit for Samsung to officially present the SyncMaster 940UX… only then we will have some answers.
