Turkey Says No More YouTube

After China saying no more to LiveJournal and internet cafes, the time has come for Turkey to ban the most popular video website in the world – YouTube.

The reason for the ban?

According to Turkish media, there has been a “virtual war” between Greek and Turkish users of the site, with both sides posting insulting videos.

And what is the message that Turkish internet surfers receive when visiting YouTube?

Access to www.youtube.com site has been suspended in accordance with decision no: 2007/384 dated 06.03.2007 of Istanbul First Criminal Peace Court.

It seems as more and more often the government is acting towards blocking sites on the internet, the on/off button looks like it is easy to use, but at the same time I wonder how many people know and make use of proxy sites to access the banned content.
