Flickr Will Go Chinese

In order to reach the second biggest internet market in the world – China – the Yahoo people have decided to launch a Chinese version of their photo sharing website a.k.a. Flickr.

A Yahoo representative from Hong Kong, comments:

The (Hong Kong) traditional-Chinese interface of Flickr will be available later this year.

Some numbers about Yahoo and China:

  • They own 40% of Alibaba, a chinese e-commerce site
  • China has 137 million internet users
  • In the past year (2006) Yahoo only had 9% of the Chinese photo sharing market, other companies with a biggest share include NetEase (43%) and QQ (44%)

Taking in consideration the “statistics” I consider this move made by Yahoo more than obvious!
