Intel ClassMatePC

ClassMatePC is the “new” Linux based laptop developed by Intel and Mandriva, a Linux distributor with base in France.

The laptop has been produced on the other side of the world, Brazil, where there are already 800 units being used on their schools for testing purposes, other countries such as Mexico and India will have the opportunity to buy the Intel ClassMatePC computer during the second quarter of 2007.

It has some impressive specifications for a low-cost device, starting by the enhanced version of Mandriva Linux 2007 that took 8 months to finish, and ending with the following specifications:

  • 7-inch LCD display
  • water-resistant keyboard
  • 256MB of RAM
  • 2GB of flash memory-based local storage
  • 802.11b/g WiFi interface
  • 10/100Mbps Ethernet networking
  • 2 USB ports
  • theft-control feature
