Levitation Object For Your House
April 6, 2007 | In: General, Home Entertainment

How many times have you seen a cool levitating object at a friends house? Chances are slim to none, but you can make the difference with a magnet toy called Diamagnetic Levitation.
Basically there are 2 magnets that create this effect, the cubed shaped neodymium magnet on the top is the one that floats. Sadly it doesn’t float much, only 1 millimeter, but I still think it is a cool object to have at home and create the surprise buzz among your friends.
How does it work? Read the technical explication if you are bored:
The graphite is diamagnetic, and responds to the magnetic field of the little neodymium magnet by creating an opposing magnetic field. At the top of the apparatus, there is a cube which is a strong neodymium magnet, and this is helping to counteract the gravitational pull on the small magnet. The sum total of all the forces acting on the little Neodymium magnet mean that it floats in mid air.
