USB Digital Microscope

One of the most famous gadget stores - ThinkGeek - has just added a new USB product to their inventory, the Digital Microscope.

The device can either:

  • take photos at a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels
  • or record videos at 30 frames-per-second and probably a smaller resolution
  • as for the magnification values, it can be 20X or 50X, and if you really want to zoom in, the best option is 200X.

Obviously the images and videos will be displayed in your computer thanks to the USB interface. The microscope comes with 4 white LED lights to illuminate the objects, and is detachable from the stand to allow you to get closer to large object.

Great for industrial inspection, science education, forensics, printing, textile, printed circuit board (PCB) inspection, jewelers, hobbyists.

Priced at $180.

PS - One thing I don’t understand is the USB version, why 1.1 instead of the actual 2.0?
