Kansei, The Facial Expression Robot

Kensei - Facial Expression Robot

With all kind of robots being created, the humanoid robot named Kansei and made in Japan is here to make the difference because its main feature is related to facial expressions – something that is rarely seen on robots.

Basically after hearing a word Kansei makes an expression. Here are some examples of words and corresponding facial expressions:

  • bomb – shows displeasure/dislike
  • sushi – makes him smile
  • president – scared and disgusted

More info about how it works:

The robot has 19 movable parts underneath the silicone face mask. When the robot hears the word “president”, the online database picks up associated words such as “Bush,” “war” and “Iraq” and creates an expression which the researchers said is meant to mix fear and disgust.

Right now there are 36 facial expressions that Kansei can do, but expect a higher number on the near future with some new features too, such as speech abilities.

this is really creepy, i mean seriously, and they say robots will never take over the world. Allitll take is a malfunction and instead of having to say “kill” for it to kill it will malfunction and “kill” at will. I once had a remote control car and it started by its self, it was jsut a malfunction but it proves that ROBOTS WILL KILL PEOPLE.

probably.

I agree. I wonder if the creators of these robots have seen the Terminator trilogy.
