BEAR – Battlefield Extraction-Assist Robot
June 11, 2007 | In: Robots Cyborgs

The BEAR is not actually a bear, but more of a robot that can help soldiers. It has 2 high-mobility legs and a dynamic balance behavior, so it is suppose to go anywhere a human can. With the help of the 2 high-power hydraulic arms it can lift persons and has a weight limit of 135kg.
Can you think about any scenarios in which the BEAR would be useful?
- In a war to help wounded personas
- In a house to help the elderly in case of emergency
- In a hospital
The remote-controlled Battlefield Extraction-Assist Robot (Bear) will be able to travel over rough terrain while carrying a casualty comfortably in its arms.
A prototype can already lift more than 135kg (300lb) with one arm and climb stairs holding a human-sized dummy.
PS – This robot is being made for the US Military.
