Slide And Negative To Digital Picture Converter

The Digital Picture Converter offers one of the easiest ways to convert old-school 35mm slides and film negatives into a digital format.

There are other alternatives to do this task, like using a normal scanner or a commercial service, but those are expensive and/or take a lot of time.

How does it work:

Slides and negatives are placed into a tray that aligns each properly; the touch of a button scans the image instantly.

It has a 5MP CMOS sensor that provides 10 bits per color channel for data conversion, and uses fixed focus and automatic exposure control and color balance, resulting in clear digital images without loss of resolution.

Of course it uses the USB power from your computer as power, and it also works to transfer the photos to the PC. Additionally, it comes with custom software that lets you edit the images.

Priced at $100.

I have been reading all the information provided on this ‘Slide and Negative to digital image converter and feel it looks pretty good, especially for the price. Do you have any customer review or user comments for this slide scanner? I have been unable to locate any reviews or comments and would like to know how purchasers of this unit have responded on it’s use. I am not sure if I can order this unit from Canada. I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Hi Terry,

I couldn’t find any review about the Slide Converter, but on the Hammacher site it says they ship products to Canada.

If you end up buying it, I’d love to “hear” your review/personal opinion.

I have just purchased it and will let you know how it works. I could not find any reviews either , so I purchased it to try it out. I hope it converts the slides I have with the same resolution, so we will see!

John, I don’t know where you can buy the Slide Converter in Canada, but it is available at Hammacher (check link on the post), and they ship to Canada.

The one that has Veho on the front of the device says that it is Windows XP and Windows Vista compatible but the one on skymall and the Hammacher websites do not show Veho on the front say they are Windows XP compatible only so are there two different devices. They look exactly alike but slightly dif descriptions and one has Veho on the front. VEho is not even mentioned on the Hammacher and Skymall websites.

I found this website with reviews and comments that might prove helpful. Around #41 a guy mentions that there are two different products that look the same and manufactured by the same place but the Veho seems to be the only one that states its Vista Compatible. But one lady was able to do a patch update with the Vupoint one that said it was only WindowsXP. There were good and bad comments on this product. Amazon has some good converter devices that are more expensive than this.

The Veho from Brookstone supports Vista. The Hammacher unit is a VuPoint. It will only run on XP and I’ve heard running the Veho software can crash an entire Vista system completely. The Nikon Coolscan V is also only XP compatible, but if you do have XP and can afford a $500 unit, this scanner is the best you will ever find for quality photos from slides and negatives. Impeccable. But I can’t afford it… The Veho from Brookstone has 12 user reviews. 3 are 5*, 3 are 4*, 2 are 2* and 4 are 1*. That’s 6 great, 6 horrible. I’m not going to buy the Veho because I want to wait for a unit that can support Vista and gets good reviews all around. The VuPoint from Hammacher, which is also available now at Bed Bath and Beyond for $99 (plus you can use a 20% off coupon and buy this unit for $80) has an average of 4* from 34 users. But don’t forget, VuPoint/Hammacher is for XP only!
