Portuguese Magazine releases DVD with malware that asks for money
July 3, 2007 | In: General

Exame Informática, a Portuguese magazine dedicated to computers and technology, has released a DVD with malware that asks users to send a SMS with a price of €2 to activate a software called DVD shrink.
The truth is that the software included in the DVD is fake and considered (by the magazine folks) an international scheme to extort money. The software in question – DVD Shrink – is obviously free like you can see on their website, but they have received plenty of warnings from other sites about this scam.
The only problem is that Exame Informática sells the DVD along with the magazine to thousands of people. If some customers fell for it, who are we going to blame? My bet goes for the not-so-very-bright person who didn’t download the program from the official website.
