NEC presents LaVie laptop models
September 3, 2007 | In: Laptops Notebooks

While some devices have a fingerprint scanner as a security system to access data, there are others that go one step ahead, like the new laptops from NEC, which have a webcam to make sure that only the real owner is able to use the laptop.
Both models (LaVie C, and D) that feature this new technology have a 15.4-inch screen + Blu-ray Drive. The only difference is on the processor, Core 2 Duo for the C model, and Celeron for the L model.
Look for the whole lot to hit Japan later this month, with prices ranging from ¥150,000 to ¥310,000 (or about $1,300 to $2,675).
There is only one problem related to the webcam security system with face recognition – what if the conditions are pretty bad and the laptop can’t really check who the owner is? What if someone tries to trick the system? Only NEC knows…
