Eikon Digital Privacy Manager

Eikon Digital Privacy Manager is a USB fingerprint reader that recently got the Mac-support, back in May when it was launched for the first time, the device only worked with PCs (aka mostly Windows) but this version is now compatible with MacOS 10.4 Tiger.

Besides the normal password protection mode to some applications and folders, the second security layer is the fingerprint reader, which according to an episode of MythBusters that I recently viewed can be easy to trick. On top of that there are 5 interesting security features on the Eikon Manager made by UPEK:

- logon at startup and when returning from sleep
- unlock keychain,
- unlock secure preferences at admin-level settings,
- unlock file vault to decrypt home folders
- and unlock the screen saver all with the swipe of a finger

If you own a Eikon Digital Privacy Manager and want to use it with your Mac, head over to the UPEK site and download the preview version. In case you are interested in getting one, it costs $40.
