Blitz is “My first Smartphone” – a QWERTY smartphone for tweens

Verizon has teamed up with UTStarcom to release their TXT8010 as the “Blitz”, a smartphone for tweens. That’s right TWEENS. It’s a crackberry for the Hanna Montana crowd!
The slider phone features a full qwerty keyboard, VCAST music, a microSD slot, 1.3 megapixel camera, and, of course, Bluetooth (so they have a tween sized bluetooth ear piece) and it’s only $70 with a 2-year contract.
I’m actually all for kids having cellphones from a safety standpoint. I love the idea that my child could call me if they were lost or we were somehow separated (although my child does not currently have a cell phone), but I really think that a full blown qwerty, vcast, bluetooth device might be a little much. I don’t know.
I would imagine this will also appeal to people with small hands. So there’s definitely some room for success in the small hands market.
