Boxee Pre-Orders Begin Today!

Over at IDF, Boxee is revealing that they will be switching to an Intel platform and use an Atom processor to power the Boxee box that’s about twice as much as the new Apple TV.
The Boxee Box was demonstrated at CES 2010 with an NVIDIA Tegra processor, but in the end, we’ve been told that the Intel platform (Atom CE 4100) was selected because it plays back 1080p videos at a higher bitrate. One benefit from the switch to Intel is that Adobe Flash content is fully supported in the web browser.
Despite a few cosmetic changes in the box itself, the overall experience feels very much like what Boxee envisioned earlier this year. The big news is that you can pre-order it today as the Boxee Box will ship in November. It will cost $199 – yes, that’s twice the price of the Apple TV, but Boxee seems to be a better source of free content. Stay tuned for a full-on review next month.
