Verizon Wireless Adds Half a Million Users Before iPhone Debut

Even before Verizon Wireless has officially debuted the Apple iPhone as part of their purchasable smartphone lineup, the mobile company has just revealed that they don’t have to have the iPhone to add more users.

Apparently Verizon has managed to attract over half a million new smartphone users before the launch of the iPhone, which begs the question of how many mobile users will come over to Verizon after the iPhone launches.

Verizon Wireless added 872,000 subscribers on contract-based plans, well above analyst expectations of about 650,000. Contract-based subscribers are the most lucrative, and Verizon said three-quarters of the new subscribers bought smart phones, which come with added data fees.

When Verizon brings the iPhone to their lineup next month, we can’t wait to see how many users flock to the safe arms of the more trusted brand.  Will so many folks leave AT&T at long last that Verizon’s network will sag?
