Emergency chargers are pretty useful, and every sane person should definitely own one. With that being said, Iogear has recently presented the GearJuice Rescue Charger.

The small yet powerful charger is suppose to give an extra 15 minutes of battery life to different types of gadgets, like cellphones, portable media players, and anything else you can imagine. The only problem seems to be the connection interface – mini-USB – which might not be compatible with the device you want to charge, but I bet there is an universal adapter somewhere.

What is the energy source of the GearJuice Rescue? A normal AA battery.

Just say goodbye to the boring scenarios of having no battery on the cellphone – grab a couple of AA batteries, and spend $12 on this special charger.

Its compact design makes it easy to slip into your pocket, laptop bag, or backpack where it is readily accessible for use in situations where mobile power is necessary.

Remember all the times the battery of your wireless keyboard or mouse died? How many times did you have spare batteries ready to be used? How much time did you have to wait to buy a new ones? Hopefully, not much.

In any case, all these problems can be solved if you get the Eneloop USB Battery Charger, I guess that in a matter of a few hours you will be able to use the batteries again, that is, if you have a computer + usb port available. If you are traveling and need to recharge AA batteries on the go, this is the kind of gadget you need…

The phrase “batteries not included” won’t bother you when buying the Electrilite crank powered flashlight. It’s sports multiple LED’s that can be turned on or off depending on how much illumination you need, a hand crank for recharging the unit so you never need batteries and comes in at least 3 models for different uses.

Not only that, but it can also be used to recharge your cellphone or operate it indefinitely (or as long as your forearm holds up with all that cranking). From one of the Electrilite product pages:

Begin charging your phone by cranking the handle at a rate of approximately 2-3 cranks per second, which generates a steady 6.2 volts. Because the product is voltage-regulated, turning the handle faster cannot damage the phone and will not speed the charging process. Three minutes of cranking will provide 2-8 minutes of talk time. However, continuous cranking will provide you with an endless supply of talk time.

Sony is planning to announce a massive battery recall of its own, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) confirmed.

The recall, expected this month, will encompass all possibly defective batteries, including those previously announced by manufacturers for specific notebook computers, said Julie Vallese, director of the Office of Public Affairs at the CPSC. But it is not expected to extend to batteries for devices other than laptops.

The little white box you are seeing on the image is the Notebook Mate which can do 5 different tasks:

work as a portable speaker with the 3 watts of powerful sound

work as a USB Hub with the 3 ports available, it’s so actual it uses the USB2.0 version

charge 4 AA batteries (Ni-MH), it has an intelligent quick charge feature that must mean something like low-time charging

charge USB devices

USB speaker + a line-in jack

This diversity of functions in one device only can say something about its quality, sometimes it’s hard enough to get one single device to work properly so when the Notebook Mate comes and shows a 5-in-1, just think of the good and bad things that can happen. On one had we have the opportunity to playback songs and charge batteries at the same time (which is good), but if one of the functions stops working we go from 5 to 4 and maybe 3 functions, in a device which looks kind of hard to repair (which is bad).

Images of the Notebook Mate in action:

battery charger

Anyway, the Notebook Mate is available at USBGeek for $55 if you’re interested.

One of the main concerns on all the electronic devices is the battery time, it’s a pain in the ass when the battery drops dead and you’re in the middle of an important task like working on a laptop or playing a PSP game. That’s when the PowerSource Mobile 100 comes in play, it increases the battery time and is compatible with plenty of devices, the only thing you need to do is connect your battery-dead product into the AC outlet or USB port of the PowerSource Mobile and continue working/playing/whatever.

The extra hours of battery time depends of the “application” you’re using, if it is a laptop consider 2 hours of additional runtime, for a PSP 12 hours, and for devices that consume less battery like an iPod extra boost is 44 hours.

The PowerSource Mobile 100 costs $130 and is made by Xantrex.

This is probably the best lighter car charger I’ve seen because it will virtually charge any device you have, unlike other lighter chargers specific for a cellphone or MP3 player, this one handles wall sockets so the only thing you will need is the normal charger that comes with the device. It has an alarm and automatic shutoff to protect the car battery if something goes wrong and there is space for 3 chargers.

The 3-Prong Wall Socket Car Adapter is at sale on ThinkGeek for $35.
