Facebook has been selling information to government agencies and giving clandestine access to information security firms so that they can spy on people from all around the world. Some of these so-called whitehat infosec firms are working for authoritarian governments, such as those of Egypt and Syria.

Everything you do on Facebook stays on Facebook regardless of your “privacy” settings, and deleting your account is impossible, even if you “delete” your account, all your personal info stays on Facebook and can be recovered at any time. Changing the privacy settings to make your Facebook account more “private” is also a delusion. Facebook knows more about you than your family.

You cannot hide from the reality in which you, the people of the internet, live in. Facebook is the opposite of the Antisec cause. You are not safe from them nor from any government. Despite Facebook’s seemingly innocent way of allowing users to take advantage of facial recognition software in tagging photos, Germany has taken a stand and said, well, that they won’t stand for it.

Germany has apparently outlawed Facebook in its current state, saying each citizen and user has their “the right to anonymity”.  Facebook has up to two weeks to make changes specific for the country which would specifically entail the ability for users to delete their stored faces and/or disable the function entirely.  If the social network does not comply, the country is issuing a $500,000 fine.

Though $500K is a drop in a very very very large bucket for Facebook, we imagine that they will bend to Germany’s wishes since bad press may not be what FB may be looking for.

I can’t help it, you guys that are still using BlackBerry handsets are like people that still used DOS many years after Windows was a known entity.  I don’t get it, I don’t understand it and I kinda am over it, but here is some gadgety news for you all the same.

Facebook is now available for your antiquated BlackBerry 2.0 and it’s hot off the press.  Ok, fine, I know, I’m getting tacky, I’ll keep it to a minimum.

The update is a long time coming for BlackBerriers and will bring users up to date on many features that you cats have been missing including Facebook Places for checking into places and scavenging for deals, Facebook Events, Viewing “Likes” and and Privacy control for status updates.

A chicken Facebook in every pot and every phone has been released.  Celebrate yon gadgety hooligans, as you can now get your dose of social networking where ere you go.

The news has rung out loud and clear that while of course Android and iPhone handsets have the better of the Facebook apps, there will not be a handset out there who cannot download Zuckerberg’s baby.  The new everyman app has been designed so that it can run as seamlessly as possible on all phones that run and allow apps.

Facebook for Every Phone may not be as shiny as smartphone apps but you can check your news feed, access your photos and check that inbox of yours.  Not too shabby, Facebook.  Bet they’re having a grand ole celebration at headquarters.

You know the Winklevoss twins just loved hearing the news that investment firm General Atlantic has placed a new value on social networking site Facebook.

According to the firm, Facebook is being valued at $65 billion which amazingly represents a huge 30% leap from the last investment value assessment back in January.

General Atlantic is in the works to purchase about 2.5 million Facebook shares from former Facebook staffers which will give them about 0.1% stake in the company.

Well with 500 million users and climbing, the new and updated figure only makes sense.  Where is the cap on this phenomenon though?

Jeepers, how long has the game Monopoly been around?  It’s like they have a monopoly on finance-charged board games.

Well, apparently time is no matter as EA and Hasbro have teamed up to bring Monopoly Millionaires to Facebook, you know, the media device that saved Egypt (yeah, right).

The new free social network game will allow users all over the world to participate in this age-old game of making dough.  Facebook’s Monopoly Millionaires app is pretty similar to the board game, though with a few catches, such as the amount of friends you have on the site could possibly determine your success.

Despite Facebook reps denying any legitimacy to a phone they’re working on, the rumor mill has been busy this weekend.

The word on the street is that the supposed Facebook phone would be Android-powered which would be sorta of ironic at this point since Facebook and Google are at the moment competitors.  All the same, it’s a very interesting rumor development and one that has created a Photoshopped Facebook Android phone pic.

Speaking from FB headquarters in Palo Alto, California Wednesday Zuckerberg revealed, “A lot of people are upset with us.”  The CEO is of course talking about their privacy foible that was part of the update overhaul in May which made users insert more personal info than they were comfortable with, with the fear they would be kicked off Facebook if users didn’t share their details.

Facebook techs have been working day and night after such a high level of complaints and have adjusted the privacy settings.

The main privacy settings page lets users toggle between sharing various types of content with everyone, friends of friends, and friends only. Facebook gives broad recommended settings or users can click to customize. This applies to all content retroactively and all content going forward.

What other users can see about you in the directory is limited. You don’t have to share your friend list with other users, and you don’t have to share what pages and interests you have connected to and liked. Facebook warns you that you should probably share some information so that your actual friends can find you.

You can now opt out completely of the Facebook platform. If you do, you won’t be able to access any applications, but applications will then have no information about you. Particularly important is that if you opt out, your friends won’t be able to share your information with other applications. You can also more clearly opt out of the new instant personalization feature. Lastly, in the coming month, outside applications will have to ask for items of your personal data in a much more granular manner.

Back last June MySpace and Facebook were pretty much neck and neck, but since that time Facebook has come out ahead with a cleaner look, more extras and much better press.

If you look at last month, for example, MySpace had around 124 million unique visitors, while Facebook alone enjoyed 276 million, quite a contrast.

I wonder what would look best on MySpace’s headstone, an angel or gargoyles?

Facebook users can already log into their account via the free Facebook iPhone or iTouch app, but Connect will serve as the proverbial glue to allow other apps to exchange information on the social networking site.
