Japan’s largest glass maker made headlines Thursday with their new line of extra-tough, scratch-resistant glass called Dragontail.

Asahi Glass Company unveiled the Dragontail gadget cover, saying the glass is more than six times as strong as conventional glass.

Called “Dragontrail,” the product represents Asahi’s intensified ambitions to grab a chunk of the surging global market for smartphones and tablets. All those devices need a durable sheath to protect what’s inside from the bumps, nicks and falls that inevitably come with use.

The biggest player in the market now is Corning Inc., which makes the much-heralded “Gorilla” glass.

While it’s been much-rumored that Apple uses Gorilla glass themselves, neither company has ever revealed the mystery.  Apparently, many customers of the glass maker do not wish to be identified.

The handset will apparently be much slimmer and smaller than its predecessor,  but there is not much more to go on than that.  Wow, talk about a heavy-rumored week so far!

We don’t mind saying that this cell looks pretty sweet on hardwood, by the way.  Oh, and here are the rumored specs: 480×360 resolution touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard, new Trackpad, 3.2 megapixel AF camera, Bluetooth, OS 5.0, UMTS/HSDPA and UMTS/HSDPA.

We’d take one or two.

Potentially known as the iPad, though we’re really hoping that Apple’s not going to go this sanitary napkin route, this gadgety device is tauted to flaunt a 10.7″ display screen, run on the iPhone OS, feature both 3G as well as 3G-less capability and pretty much just be awesome.

The only question is, would you want one?

According to the document, 7-Eleven will no longer be taking orders for black, white and silver 80GB PS3 after August 9. 

Hmmmm.  This is a tasty little tidbit.  Maybe we’ll be seeing a brand new PS3 before the month’s end!
