Okay, color us dumb, when we saw a headline indicating there was a Red Cross Donation Vending Machine we were sorta expecting to be somehow able to donate blood via a vending machine.  Yeah, what a dubious conclusion, we know.

So, now that we know this machine is no vamp, check out the new vending machine brought to you by the Japanese Red Cross. If you’re in Japan and want to donate to the Red Cross you no longer have to wade through the interwebs, you can now do it with the touch and feel of a vending machine button.

You can choose to part with either ¥10 or ¥100, where the normal purchase buttons will light up whenever you insert dough, although you will walk away with nothing but a feeling of satisfaction that your donation will help rebuild parts of Japan which were ravaged by March’s earthquake and tsunami. These units are special, being branded with the iconic red cross while featuring images of the work that the Japan Red Cross are doing.

Can’t find the time or funds to make it to Vegas?  Can’t afford a preacher and location?  Well, then, here’s hoping the AutoWed concept from UK firm Concept Shed will come alive for you.

The British firm is proposing a sort of adorably designed 8-foot-tall pink machine that will be able to marry folks on the spot.  Users will be able to choose between straight, gay, lesbian or even platonic BFF love, all for the mere paltry price of one pound.

For one pound you will receive a quick ceremony complete with dispensed plastic rings, a wedding certificate that really resembles more of a receipt and the experience of getting hitched via machine.  Of course, it might be a grand idea to place a DivorceOMatic right next to the AutoWed, but maybe that’s just our own critical bones speaking out.

Well, sigh, I guess there are good things about digitizing books, though I truly prefer the smell and feel of a real one.  The word on the street, and it’s a pretty stellar word at that, is that the British Library and Google are forming up to digitize over 250,000 out of print and rare books.

How amazing is that?  Now you don’t have to be uber rich to know what the out of print publications have going on.  The unlikely duo will be working together with 250,000 out-of-copyright books from their library catalog with publications ranging from 1700 to 1870.

The books will be made accessible via Google Books and the British Library’s website for free after the dubious efforts of scanning all of the titles is finally complete,

With over 40 million pages waiting to be scanned, this is one time we’re thankful that we’re not employed by Google.  Can you imagine the paper cuts?!

With all the buzz at E3 and Apple’s WWDC, we have sadly skipped over an important announcement from MetroPCS that we should correct post haste.

On Monday, the company announced that they will be offering a visual voice mail service that will enable users to listen to voicemails without having to go through their entire list.

Voice mails will show up on the phone’s display along with the contact’s picture and they can reply to the message by calling back or by sending a text message or an e-mail.

The service will be available on the Samsung Galaxy Indulge, LG Optimus M, and Huawei Ascend. Support for the RIM BlackBerry 8530 and other BREW-based devices will come at a later date. It will cost an additional $5 per month and you’ll need at least a $45-per-month plan for non-4G handsets and at least a $50-per-month plan for 4G LTE handsets like the Samsung Craft.

Today marks the kick off of WWDC 2011 edition and we can’t wait to see the new reveals.

Nintendo has plans to reveal the new Wii console, and Microsoft has promised a peak at the Xbox TV and hopefully Sony will be on their knees with apologies and promises where their network is concerned.

E-cigarette manufacturer Blu has something new and pretty clever up their sleeves this year with the introduction of their smart packs.

Each $80 pack of battery-powered cigarettes comes with radio sensors that alerts users if there is a fellow Blu smoker within 50 feet by the box lighting up and vibrating which would more than likely in turn run the other direction so you can go back to merrily being the only Blu smoker in the room.
