At CES 2008, VTech showed off an unusual (home) phone that will become available next month, during February, with a price tag of $99.

What makes it unusual are the following details: QWERTY keyboard, support for MSN and AIM, and being able to connect to a computer via USB. Which means users will have access to the internet, and can simply have AIM conversations on the VTech phone.

The IS6110 features a small and colorful LCD screen, that displays the chat convo. And to make the sound quality better when making voice calls, we’ve got the DECT 6.0 Digital technology.

Other key features include an integrated speakerphone, multiple ringtone options and a built-in 50 name and number phonebook directory.

AOL is making an effort to get one of their social networks called AIM Pages notable, by this I mean using their instant messnger service called AIM to promote the website. I’m glad I signed up with AIM and all of a sudden received an email about his new feature and promotion, so here is how it goes:

The latest version of AIM 6.0 lets you easily check your friends profiles on AIM Pages, just right click on their screen name and then click “Get AIM Page”.

Another feature with the latest 6.0 version of AIM is being able to access and edit your own profile easily, just select “My AIM Page” from the “Edit” drop down.

So there you have it AIM users, the latest tips of your favorite instant messenger service.

PS – I think that at they are promoting 2 products at the same time – AIM6.0 and AIM Pages – it is a 2-in-1 session.

It’s great for communicating with friends and business associates, for free, no long distance charges as long as the other party has it installed on their computer too.

So now they’ve improved and released their Linux version. Coincidence – I was playing around with a Linux laptop at a local computer store a few days ago and wondered how compatible it would be with the VOIP and IM apps I regularly use.

Here’s a snip from the official announcement:

We have finally put up the latest and the greatest and public and 1.3.

Named Skype for Linux 1.3.0.53 it sports an impressive change log with a lot of visual, usability and sound quality improvements.

There are still some audio problems (for some users, especially those on Ubuntu 6.06), and we will try to address them in further versions.

So, all you penguin hugging Skype junkies, can download Skype for Linux here.

There used to be a time in which Google Talk (the instant messenger program) was only available for Gmail users (the free webmail service) but today that selection detail disappeared because Google announced that anyone can download and use Google Talk.

If you’d like to try the instant messenger create a Google account and you’re good to go, just a warning here – the nickname “dadadadada” is not available and it wasn’t me.

PS – There are still some drawbacks if you use Google Talk without a Gmail account, like like e-mail notification not working, (the little balloon that pops up whenever you receive an e-mail, similar to what MSN has if you use a hotmail account) and not being able to save conversations.

It’s a special day for the instant messenger provided by Google, also known as Google Talk (or like I love to call it, GTalk) because its the celebration of its 1 year birthday.

A new version of the software has been released a few days ago, the update comes with some good features that other programs don’t have, like Voicemail:

About Voicemail: If your friends aren’t around to answer your call, you can leave them a voicemail message instead. Just record your voice after the “Meep” and your friends will get an email to their Talk contact address with the voicemail attached as an audio file.

The other features that were implemented in this last version of Google Talk: file transfer and music status + music trends – a website that shows what other Google Talk users are listening to, it can be separated by country (only includes Brazil, Canada, India, UK and US), genre, and there are weekly top lists.

PS – If you use/like Google Talk and want to send a happy birthday message to the developers, leave a voicemail message at talkbirthday@gmail.com.

Over 14 million people already use the AIM service as a daily business tool. We designed AIM Pro to be a complete instant messaging and desktop collaboration solution tailored specifically to their needs

AIM Pro has been on the beta-testing-mode for some time now, so it was no surprise to see the official release made yesterday. As said previously, the main justification of this new AIM version is to be used on the business world inside small/medium/big companies.

Here are some of the improvements and new features:

a new design to meet the corporate status

integration with Outlook

easy to use meeting mode

new finance module – gives users access to The Wall Street Journal headlines for personal finance, technology and business news

new podcasting mode – click and play digital audio content from top business, technology, sports and entertainment news providers

Are you ready to use it on your office?

Talk to your boss and see if he can imagine a better way to communicate, I’m pretty sure he won’t. It looks fast, efficient and secure, so instead of talking/using the phone from office to office, or copying files to be shared/seen by others, use an instant messaging service like AIM Pro and the tasks will become easier.

Download AIM Pro

Visit the AIM Pro Website

A new text messaging service called EggAlert allows cell phone users to receive ovulation and fertility alerts on their cell phone each month. From the PRWeb press release:

(PRWEB) July 29, 2005 — A new text messaging service called EggAlert is an innovative program that will notify cell phone users when they are ovulating. EggAlert, developed by PDAHealthWare, Inc., calculates a woman’s next ovulation time, and sends a text message on their cell phone telling them their day of ovulation, fertile period to increase the odds of conception, and when to expect their next menstrual period.

In addition, using research that employs theories about the timing of conception and its influence on conceiving a boy or girl, EggAlert can also allow couples to implement this strategy which may increase their ability to select the gender of their child.

EggAlert is ideal for busy women who are trying to become pregnant but don’t have the time to sit a computer and track each and every detail of their cycle. Dr. Dave’, CEO of PDAHealthWare, Inc., states, “EggAlert significantly increases a woman’s chances of pregnancy with very little time required on their part.”

Why waste time going through the motions of trying to conceive when it’s not necessary?
