At CES 2008, VTech showed off an unusual (home) phone that will become available next month, during February, with a price tag of $99.

What makes it unusual are the following details: QWERTY keyboard, support for MSN and AIM, and being able to connect to a computer via USB. Which means users will have access to the internet, and can simply have AIM conversations on the VTech phone.

The IS6110 features a small and colorful LCD screen, that displays the chat convo. And to make the sound quality better when making voice calls, we’ve got the DECT 6.0 Digital technology.

Other key features include an integrated speakerphone, multiple ringtone options and a built-in 50 name and number phonebook directory.

AOL is making an effort to get one of their social networks called AIM Pages notable, by this I mean using their instant messnger service called AIM to promote the website. I’m glad I signed up with AIM and all of a sudden received an email about his new feature and promotion, so here is how it goes:

The latest version of AIM 6.0 lets you easily check your friends profiles on AIM Pages, just right click on their screen name and then click “Get AIM Page”.

Another feature with the latest 6.0 version of AIM is being able to access and edit your own profile easily, just select “My AIM Page” from the “Edit” drop down.

So there you have it AIM users, the latest tips of your favorite instant messenger service.

PS – I think that at they are promoting 2 products at the same time – AIM6.0 and AIM Pages – it is a 2-in-1 session.

So now they’ve improved and released their Linux version. Coincidence – I was playing around with a Linux laptop at a local computer store a few days ago and wondered how compatible it would be with the VOIP and IM apps I regularly use.

There used to be a time in which Google Talk (the instant messenger program) was only available for Gmail users (the free webmail service) but today that selection detail disappeared because Google announced that anyone can download and use Google Talk.

If you’d like to try the instant messenger create a Google account and you’re good to go, just a warning here – the nickname “dadadadada” is not available and it wasn’t me.

PS – There are still some drawbacks if you use Google Talk without a Gmail account, like like e-mail notification not working, (the little balloon that pops up whenever you receive an e-mail, similar to what MSN has if you use a hotmail account) and not being able to save conversations.

Microsoft opted on a comic profile for the marketing campaign of Windows Live Messenger as you can see per the CommunicationEvolved website, I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but at least it is different.

It’s a special day for the instant messenger provided by Google, also known as Google Talk (or like I love to call it, GTalk) because its the celebration of its 1 year birthday.

A new version of the software has been released a few days ago, the update comes with some good features that other programs don’t have, like Voicemail:

About Voicemail: If your friends aren’t around to answer your call, you can leave them a voicemail message instead. Just record your voice after the “Meep” and your friends will get an email to their Talk contact address with the voicemail attached as an audio file.

The other features that were implemented in this last version of Google Talk: file transfer and music status + music trends – a website that shows what other Google Talk users are listening to, it can be separated by country (only includes Brazil, Canada, India, UK and US), genre, and there are weekly top lists.
