Hallelujah!  Finally, the timely searching for lyrics online is over, as Shazam is here to save the lyrical day.

With Shazam’s latest Encore update (the premium version of the app where you pay $3.99/year or a one-time fee of $5.99), LyricPlay will save you in a pinch if you happen to forget the lyrics of a song, or even how long to hold a note.

Shazam’s LyricPlay will add a “karaoke” feature to the app: recognized songs will have its lyrics displayed on the users’ phones. Animation will accompany the lyrics that are synced with the songs in real-time, letting users know where they are in the song, so they know where they are if they feel like singing along. Now everybody can break out their phones when they hear a song they like and sing along to it as if they’ve known the song their whole lives.

Shazam Encore LyricPlay is currently only available via the iOS version, sorry Droids, but of course, they won’t hold out too long on you non-Apple users, so chin up, you too will be able to enjoy a shower sing-along, well maybe if you have a waterproof case that is.

If you’re like us and you’ve become addicted to the Netflix iPhone app, sorry Android users, then you’ll be happy to note that the new update finally fixes an integral problem with the application.

Video out is finally being supported with the new Netflix update and it’s about damn time.  This means that at long last you can send the video of your choice to an even bigger, better screen without too much fuss.  Hooray.

A new iPhone app is headed to the App Store and this one has got our toes a-tingling.  The new $3 Plane Finder app is upgrading their old free application with a new set of tricks.

Now all you have to do is hold up your iPhone to the sky to view the flight number, speed, destination and elevation for planes buzzing overhead.  It finally makes perfect sense that we live next to an airport, doesn’t it?

Created to show you and “empower you with up-to-the-minute information” on where and when the Swine Flu is breaking out, this new iPhone app will show you a Swine Flu tracking map from Google so you know if you’re right in the middle of the red.

Yahoo! Mobile is now available for download on Apple’s iPhone and iTouch which will allow users to access their news sites, stay connected and discover new information.  Along with the announcement yesterday of the app, Yahoo! said that a new Yahoo! Messenger will soon be up for grabs as well.

Looks like Yahoo! is wising up.

Today sees the launch of the Skype iPhone and iTouch app, with the Blackberry version coming out in May. 

The app will be announed today at Las Vegas’ CTIA Wireless 2009 trade show at 3:30pm PST.

The scoop so far is that the app can only be access over WiFi, a condition, of course, demanded by AT&T and other cellular service providers, as to not steal revenue.

Blackboard, who created the software to help students and professors keep in touch with coursework and assignments, designed a mobile app for the same purpose which debuted yesterday.

A Blackboard developer states, ”The iPhone App lets a student see what’s new since they last synced.”

“It’s an efficiency tool designed to help students manage their time.”

Blackboard hopes to expand the application in the future once they can see how many iPhone users will be downloading the new app.

The App store will hit around 300,000 apps for the iPhone and iTouch Thursday, but the trend is slowing due to delays in approval of applications by Apple as well as complaints from developers.

According to Apple 2.0, developers are receiving delayed payments from Apple as well as delays in the apps themselves, which adds to the gradual slowing of new apps to the iTunes store.

I guess we’ll just have to wait on yet another emoticon app.

Inspired by the X-Plane flight simulator, the Sully’s Flight iPhone application lets you experience January’s Miracle on the Hudson.

Users take off with the new app while hitting a flock of geese and losing power in the engines, all the while circling Manhattan to land in the Hudson River.  But be careful, there’s a lot of sinking going on.

Already wildly popular, the new iPhone app is a great time-waster game that allows users to find words in a mess of letters and burn their way to the bottom of the board for bonus points.  Sort of like a wordy Tetris, if you will.
