So far the EC-Dii is only a prototype, but I’m pretty sure that in the near future we’ll see a mass production mode of this cheap (in fuel) transportation vehicle.

The Yamaha Bike uses methanol-water as the fuel and it will be displayed during the Tokyo Motor Show taking place in China later this month.

The new Yamaha EC-Dii prototype fuel-cell bike is enhanced with new features like a Yamaha-exclusive compact cell stack that features the highest level of power density in the 1kW class, modular design components, readily available parts and improved serviceability aimed at achieving practical use.

Sadly there is not much more information available, the use of a rechargeable lithium battery and being one of the 19 Yamaha vehicles at the show are the last details.

Straight from Asia comes an useful electric bicycle that is strangely named “Piano Classic”, as it happens most of the times, this is a product that will become available first in Korea and afterwards in the rest of the world, that is, if we are lucky enough.

The Piano bicycle features a Komatsu engine that can be switched on/off easily – users can easily change from automatic to manual mode by turning a knob. Besides that easy-to-use point, the seat cover and handles are replaceable so you can use the material you like the most.

Sadly there is no information about the maximum speed of the electric bicycle, but having an engine to help out is always good.

Price? 190,000(KRW) which is something like $200.

Just think about how useful a flying motorcycle can be, no more waiting-hours on the traffic! The Super Sky Cycle is what you will need to accomplish that hard task, it can fly at more than 100mph in the air but I don’t know how good (or bad) the controls are.

Instead of flying the Sky Cycle there is also the chance to drive it as a “normal” motorcycle, in this case the maximum speed is close to 55mph. Don’t worry about its big size, you can make it smaller by folding the rotor system.

This flying motorcycle also has a transmission that “can be switched between driving the rear rotor of the plane and driving the rear wheels.”

The remote (as you can see on the picture) features volume controls and basic functions such as forward, reward, play and pause. There is also a small display that provides information about the number and length of each track.

The CD player itself will be located in a safe area of the bike, I don’t know where but it should be in a good spot to help it being drip-proof.

As a result of increased violence against Monks in Thailand in recent years, personal protection for the jovial abstainers has ballooned into a thriving industry.

As a result, new products are being developed to protect Buddhist monks, from bulletproof vests in the traditional safron hue to motorcycle sidecars—dubbed “monkmobiles”— encased in protective glass and outfitted with a small window for receiving alms. Many of the products are devised by “Thailand’s Q” (a reference to James Bond’s gadget guy), Major Songphon Eiamboonyarith, a defense contractor who has also invented bulletproof tuk-tuks (motorcycle taxis), “umbrellas that shoot rubber bullets, bullet-proof baseball caps and a hand-held device to fire a man-sized net 30 feet (10 m) to stop a villain in his tracks.”

Like the smart Car but feeling a little limp with it’s stock 60hp powerplant? Well, not to fear. Peter Bee along with help from the UK’s Seton Racing and tuning shop Z Cars have done a couple of modifications to one to put a little punch into the road-egg.

They just dropped a Suzuki GSXR1000 motorcycle engine into it! Linked with a Cosworth differential, this provides 180 hp with a redline of 13,000 RPM. End result? 0-60 in 4.2 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.4 seconds and it tops out at 132mph.

Thinking that might be a little too much for the dinky little car? Think again. According to Jalopnik, “It nearly matched a Mistubishi Evo FQ-330 in an Autosport Magazine head-to-head test.”

With the price of gas climbing ever higher, I imagine more and more folks will be resorting to the trusty conveyance of pedal power. Just make sure to remember to wear your helmet and if you’re riding at night, ensure that you can see and be seen.

Now, most people would simply go out and purchase headlamps for their bicycles, but other folks have an insatiable need to make stuff themselves instead. Luckily, Jake von Slatt has already been there, done that and made a web page about it.

Jake takes you through the process of making your own halogen bicycle headlamps from parts easily picked up from your local Home Depot (except for the female Molex connector pins which he had to get from Radio Shack). Two lamps, one a 20 watt low beam and the other a 50 watt high beam are powered by a 7 Ah gel cell battery of the kind typically found in computer UPS’s.

I really liked Jake’s disclaimer from the how to…

Disclaimer: Tools used and completed headlights can be dangerous – Dangers range from cuts from knives and power tools, fire and burns from soldering irons and hot bulbs to injury and even death if assembly is swallowed. It’s up to you to keep safe.
