As you can imagine, you don’t need to pedal while making use of an electric bike, and the Titanium has a battery that is good enough to cycle around for 10km.

To provide information about the battery level, Panasonic added a SLIM – Smart Lithium-Ion Integrated Management System – that can also display information about the distance left until the battery dies.

To celebrate the launch of this new ride Panasonic asked LEON, an Italian celebrity in Japan to promote this bike.

No, it’s not the wiring harness or exploding gas tanks. Here a snip from the official recall announcement on LEGO’s site:

Why is the product being recalled?
Item #3509 LEGO EXPLORE Super Truck is being voluntarily recalled because the wheels can separate from the truck’s axles and cause a potential puncture hazard to children.

When was this product made and sold? Where was it available?
The LEGO EXPLORE Super Truck was manufactured in 2002 and 2003, and was available only in North America at toy and discount merchandise retailers including Toys “R” Us and Wal-Mart.

Wheels separating from axels? Sounds like more than a puncture hazard to me.

Here’s a snip from the product description:

The Ocean Scooter FX is lightweight, easy to carry, and ready to enjoy right out of the box. When you order an Ocean Scooter, you’ll receive everything you need to make your experience fun and easy, including a 7Ah battery, a DC vehicle power adapter, and an AC main power adapter. This will insure that no matter where you are, you’ll be able to charge your ocean scooter’s battery. On a full charge, you’ll be able to scoot through the water for over an hour! And the handlebars include a battery sensor light, so you’ll know exactly how much battery power is left.

With the price of gas climbing ever higher, I imagine more and more folks will be resorting to the trusty conveyance of pedal power. Just make sure to remember to wear your helmet and if you’re riding at night, ensure that you can see and be seen.

Now, most people would simply go out and purchase headlamps for their bicycles, but other folks have an insatiable need to make stuff themselves instead. Luckily, Jake von Slatt has already been there, done that and made a web page about it.

Jake takes you through the process of making your own halogen bicycle headlamps from parts easily picked up from your local Home Depot (except for the female Molex connector pins which he had to get from Radio Shack). Two lamps, one a 20 watt low beam and the other a 50 watt high beam are powered by a 7 Ah gel cell battery of the kind typically found in computer UPS’s.

I really liked Jake’s disclaimer from the how to…

Disclaimer: Tools used and completed headlights can be dangerous – Dangers range from cuts from knives and power tools, fire and burns from soldering irons and hot bulbs to injury and even death if assembly is swallowed. It’s up to you to keep safe.

Recently, those wacky folks on Attack of the Show on the G4 channel pimped out a Big Wheel. As you can see from the photo, they tricked her out with a DVD player, GPS, neon lights, extra wheels and assorted other bling-bling. You can check out more photos at the show’s web site here.

Now, I thought this was cool in a slightly bizarro way, but then things got a little weirder for me when I discovered via this Makezine blog post that there is actually a whole modding community that exists for folks who not only alter their Big Wheels, but take part in various events. There are Big Wheel Endurance Rides, Big Wheel Classic Drag Races, Big Wheel Rally’s and of course the Moonlight Classic midnight ride. You can find out more at the BigWheelRally web site here. They’ve got modding how-to’s as well as a store to procure your own Big Wheels.

Human beings are never at a loss for things to do in their spare time are they?

You know, just the other day I was lamenting the fact that I don’t have an amphibious watercraft. There’s a lot of canoeing in my part of the world, but you always have those tiresome portages. I was thinking it would be so much easier if you could just drive along the trails between the lakes.

Luckily, New Zealand-based Sealegs has just come out with a cool new product. Their 5.6m amphibious D-Tube features a marine grade aluminium hull with aluminium D-Tube shaped pontoons. An inboard air-cooled 16hp Honda engine powers the hydraulic wheel motors allowing the D-Tube to drive on land at up 10kmh and a 90hp Yamaha 2-stroke outboard engine provides 60kmh of mobility across the wet parts. From the review at gizmag.com…

With its walk-around centre console and eight rod holders as standard, the Sealegs D-Tube is an excellent fishing platform. It also features a self draining deck with scuppers and foam filled pontoons. The D-Tube pontoons mean that the boat is very stable at rest with ample room forward and aft for fishing.

All yours for just $79,000 AUD including GST. More details from the Sealegs web site here.

At the January 2005 international auto show in Detroit, Jeep unveiled the Hurricane concept vehicle. It has two 5.7 litre V8 HEMI engines, 4 wheel steering and a zero turning radius! The two engines, one in the front and one in the back each deliver 335 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque – a total of 670 hp and 740 lb-ft of torque. Both HEMI engines in the Jeep Hurricane are equipped with the Chrysler Group Multi-Displacement System (MDS). Depending on the driver’s needs, the Hurricane can be powered by 4-, 8-, 12- or 16-cylinders. On the road it can go from 0-60 in less than five seconds. Still no word on when this one will be showing up in your neighbors driveway.

Richard (not a DR), has shared his shed, and it happens to be a TARDIS. He’s built a full size one out of wood, he even has the plans to download so you can have a go. This TARDIS is being assembled in the village of MARTIN where the Dr. Who episode “The Awakening” starring Peter Davison was filmed

Fantastic! The little lady gets a place to stow her Martha Stewart gardening utensils and you get to wander around the 4th dimension. Now that’s a win-win.
