We’ve been talking so much about Boxee and Apple TV that we’ve all but forgotten about wee TiVo, haven’t we?

Well, the company of set-top TV boxes is starting the fall season with a new free premiere two-year contract. You won’t pay anything up front and your monthly costs will run you just under $20 with the two-year contract.

If you find that you’re somewhat reluctant to have another contract in your life, pay $300 up front and $13 each month until you wanna call it quits.

This is a great feature that allows users to watch various movies and television shows instantly if you are a Netflix subscriber. This adds to Netflix’s ever expanding usability of this service, which is also coming to the Mac platform very soon.

I think Netflix is doing this for a number of reasons – one of which is to “future-proof” their company by being prepared for that day when we no longer use disks for our movies and TV shows. Oh, won’t that be a happy day?

TiVo has announced a new flagship unit in the HD XL DVR. This new device can hold up to 150 hours of HD recording, THX certification, a Series 3 premium backlit remote, and it even includes HDMI cables.

It is, of course, a dual tuner for recording 2 HD programs simultaneously, and priced at $599.99. Sure, that’s a heck of a lot for a DVR, but man-o-man 150 hours of HD recording? Are you kidding me? If I wasn’t locked into my Dish Network contract for another 6 months I’d be firing up a credit card right now!

You can order one from TiVo’s official site.
