Twitter has quickly responded to a security flaw that let in spam which sent users to Japanese porn sites. The security breach happened early this morning but it looks like Twitter has already completely taken care of the situation.

According to Twitter, there was no user information which was compromised, so all should be fine and dandy from now on. According to a tweet from Twitter’s safety chief at around 10:30 a.m. EDT, the attack has since been “fully patched” and hackers will find the door used to roll out the exploit closed once and for all. This isn’t the first time something like that happened as back in April 2009, a security flaw was also reported and fixed only after several attacks. Hopefully this will be the last time Twitter has its security compromised.

Twitter engineers are saying the micro-blogging site’s recent outages were due to their internal networks being over capacity and that the company is working on redistributing the load.

When Twitter goes down, a picture of a whale — known as the “fail whale” — appears on Twitter.com and Jean-Paul Cozzatti said his engineering team was hoping for fewer appearances by the creature.

“You may still see the whale when there are unprecedented spikes in traffic,” he said.

“For instance, during the World Cup tournament — and particularly during big, closely-watched matches (such as tomorrow’s match between England and the USA) — we anticipate a significant surge in activity on Twitter.

“While we are making every effort to prepare for that surge, the whale may surface,” he said

The quirky TV detective show, Chuck, is being faced with cancellation but instead of sitting back and just taking it, fans of the show are showing off their Twitter skills.

A fanbase of Chuck created a Twitter tag #savechuck to encourage folks around the web to save their show. Will this do anything in the long run? We can only wait and see, but we’re betting it’s going to be interesting. Micro blogging to the rescue?

From the folks who have brought you everything from Sex for Dummies as well as eBay for Dummies, now brings you Twitter for Dummies. I mean, really, how dumb could you really be? You sign up, you tweet, you find your pals. Come on people.

The new book explains the basics of using Twitter along with the best strategies on getting better business with marketing and communication.

Topics of the publication include: the basics of signing up and creating tweets, following users and adding followers to your own tweets and establishing your own voice on Twitter.

Here’s how we feel. If you even think about buying this book, you are one big, huge, ginormous dummy. So there.

With a whole host of A-listers experiencing their Twitter accounts being hacked, we imagine that it’s fairly likely that ours aren’t too safe either.

It all started with that now infamous Fox news message about one of their anchors which stated, ‘Bill O Riley is gay’. And while Fox was reeling CNN didn’t go unscathed as Rick Sanchez was hit with, ’I am high on crack right now might not be coming into work today’.

Wow. So what can you do to protect your own crack pipe from being leaked? Do not give your account information out lightly. If you think you have fallen prey to a scam, change your password asap. You may even feel better by contacting Twitter or reading their numerous blog entries on the topic.
