Well, it’s here, the day when mobile devices have taken over the WiFi world. Right now, more people access the Internet on their mobiles versus their PCs and there’s nothing you can do about it.

According to a recent survey by none other than Meraki, over 60% of web users access the netty world via their phones. This astounding percentage is double what a similar survey revealed just last year. You’re floored, right? Well, get back up, silly!

Of course, with several new free WiFi hot spots popping up worldwide, it’s no wonder that we’re all flocking to the easy access of mobile WiFi, not to mention the ease of giving up toting a laptop around, but isn’t it a bit sad that we’re so quickly bidding adieu to our PCs? They’re prolly calling to us with tears in their motherboards, “Hello, we’re still here. We miss you, come back. Those mobiles will break your heart, but I won’t.”

Or, well, maybe that’s just me….

So, probably a lot of porn, cute animal pictures and maybe a dash or two of Rep. Wiener, which is pretty much the same thing, right?

This new move comes after McDonald’s and other fast food chains began offering free WiFi to their customers, along with cheaper coffee to boot.

Starting early of July, the coffee bar chain store will offer the free internet service to its valued customers for 6,700 shops state wide aiming to gain back its customers. Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz (on the Wired event) also added that in partnership with Yahoo, a new online customers experience will be showcased dubbed as “Starbucks Digital Network” (exclusive for US operated Starbucks shops) which allow users to access free to paid sites and services like WSJ.com, free downloads, exclusive previews and contents, community news and activities on their smart phones, tablets and note pads which will be expected to hit this fall. And by allowing customers to a free access to an exclusive site such as WSJ.com. Starbucks is expected to herd a new flock of customers to its renowned coffee shops.

“This is specifically about enhancing the experience, enhancing the brand, and giving people a reason to come to Starbucks and stay as long as you want,” Howard Schultz, Starbucks CEO.

The coffee bar chain recently let loose of its restriction on its in store Wi-Fi access by allowing users to register for a Starbucks loyalty card which entitles them two hours of free internet connection in a day, and a fee of $USD 3.99 for the next 2 hours.

The Starbucks and Yahoo tie-up will also carry other partners in this project to include; i-Tunes, NYT, AOL, USA Today, Patch and Zagat. Starbucks Wi-Fi service is continually be run by AT&T, which also handles other in store Wi-Fi connectivity.

With speeds of up to 10 times as fast as regular WiFi, the new 60 gigahertz frequency band will enable extremely high data speeds between devices in the same room. While this is completely pee-in-your-pants excitement, it may take at least two years for this technology to show up in gadgets, the WiFi Alliance reveals.

Well, as long as we get it sometime…

With a battery life of four hours of activation use and 40 hours of standby time, you will rest assured when flight time comes. But here’s the rub- for the 250MB version, the MiFi will run you $40 per month, along with the $150 for the device itself. Is it worth it? Well, that depends on if you’re having to get a second mortgage or not to afford it.
