We briefly described Amazon’s newest Kindle, the larger DX, Wednesday before the Amazon press conference, but we need to dip in a bit further and check out the eReader’s specs.

Besides the larger 9.7-inch screen and the $489 price tag, the DX will make it easier than the previous and smaller Kindle models to view newspaper and magazine articles due to the sheer size. Textbooks will also be much more fun to read, as if they ever will, since the displayed resolution will finally match up.

Oh, and did we mention that the new Kindle DX can accept PDF files? Yes, thought that would get your attention.

You will also enjoy: 3.3GB hard disk memory, 16 shades of gray, page turn speeds up 20%, 3.5mm headphone jack, built-in stereo speakers and a dedicated USB 2.0. Anything missing? Well, yes, a more affordable price for one.

On a sad note, the $489 price doesn’t seem to include a New York Times subscription…maybe they just forgot that part. Ahh, we can only hope.

The new Apple iPhone application will sync in perfectly with any and all reading material you purchase through the Kindle store. Oh, and did we mention the new app is free?

Now the iPhone certainly doesn’t hold water to the 16 grays used on the Kindle, but when you’re strapped for cash, this will do just fine.

Magazine publisher Hearts isn’t going to stay in the shadows of a bygone era. The media company is following Amazon’s lead, finally, and creating their own e-reader.

Hearts is currently in the development phase of their own e-reader, and with so many publications under their belt already (Cosmo, Esquire), they might actually be able to put up a fight against the Kindle.

The rumors are that this new e-reader will be 4 inch x 4 inch screen, rather than the 6×6 screens we have come to expect from eBook readers.

After such a long time without these devices, it looks like we’re now hitting the motherload.

If you believe the buzz, we are now just six days away from the official unveiling of Amazon’s Kindle 2.

With Amazon hosting a large press conference at a library in New York City Monday, all hopes are on the fact that the company is finally going to reveal the next generation Kindle e-reader.

Amazon sold 500,000 Kindles last year alone, and would have potentially sold 750,000 more if they had not run out of stock in November.

With February 9th just around the corner, we have a feeling that the newest Kindle won’t last too long on the shelves either.

All signs are currently pointing to Monday, February 9th as the big unveiling date for the second generation Kindle. Amazon has announced a large event that day, so we’re pretty much thinking that in less that two weeks we’ll have our eyes full of Kindle 2.

Without much ado, Amazon revealed their first MP3 shop outside the United States. While the page looks rather similar to the one we’ve grown accustomed to, you’ll notice that all the tunes are DRM-free. Yes, and three million of them at that.

Assorted whole albums are going for a mere $4, and many singles start at $.86. Looks like it’s high time to move to England.
